Questions to Ask Before Planning a New DC

Whether business is expanding or ramping up, opening a new distribution center is exciting. You’ve probably looked at a variety of other places and know what will work for you and what won’t. You’ve retained the services of a professional consulting firm. But, before making a final determination, there are some questions you’ll need to ask about your new distribution center including the kinds of industrial steel shelving you’re going to incorporate:
Is everyone on the same page?
When it comes to planning, designing, and building a distribution center or warehouse, you’ll need more than just an architect and a general contractor. The input from these people is very valuable and helpful, yet you’ll also need to talk to people from operations, IT, and finance. Ensuring that your business runs smoothly and efficiently takes the entire team. That’s why it’s important to have everyone involved in the planning process and give them a say in how the distribution center should be set up.

What current processes exist in your distribution center?
While you may or may not incorporate the current processes into the new place, they will at least give you somewhere to start when planning the space and adding industrial storage racks. Looking at the current processes will also give you an idea of what new ones you can incorporate so the new center is more efficient.
